128 new moons discovered by astronomers orbiting Ringed Planet Saturn

13 March 2025

Saturn's moon count has increased significantly to 274 after the discovery of 128 new moons by the astronomers.

Saturn is the planet with the most moons in the solar system. Jupiter has the second highest number of moons.

The largest planet Jupiter currently has 95 known moons. Uranus has 28 and Neptune has 16 known moons.

The new moons of Saturn are all irregular shaped. They are not very large and are most likely captured objects.

Mercury and Venus are the two planets with no moons. Earth has one and Mars has two known moons - Phobos and Deimos.

The total moon count in the solar system has increased to 416. Previously it was 288. The largest moon is Ganymede that orbits around Jupiter.

Astronomers say that Jupiter now will probably never catch up with Saturn. Saturn will remain the moon king in our solar system.
