The complexity of the India-Bangladesh border
From 1947 to 2015, India and Bangladesh (known as East Pakistan until 1971) shared a complex and confusing border, marked by numerous enclaves and even counter-enclaves.
(An enclave is a territory of one country or state that is completely surrounded by another country or state.)

In 2015, the two countries finally reached an agreement to simplify the border. More than 150 territories were swapped. The citizens living in these enclaves were given a choice to choose the country they want to live in.
Most of the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh border follows the Radcliffe Line, named after its designer, Sir Cyril Radcliffe.
