Madhya Pradesh is the state with the highest number of Tigers in India. There are 785 tigers in Madhya Pradesh as estimated in 2022. This is a significant increase from 526 in 2018. Karnataka comes second with 563 tigers followed by Uttarakhand which is home to 560 tigers.

Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve became MP’s seventh tiger reserve in September 2023. The reserve has an area of 2,340 square kilometers covering parts of the Narisinghpur, Damoh, and Sagar districts. The core area of the reserve is 1,414 sq km.

The Tiger population in India increased from 1,411 in 2006 to 2,967 in 2018 to 3,682 in 2022.
